A large red bump in the middle of your forehead the day before your special day might make you want to reschedule the whole thing. However, you can't keep your guests or especially your man waiting just because you have a pimple. So pull back your hair and get to work on managing that unsightly blemish, because it doesn't have to ruin your perfect princess moment.
Pre-Wedding Routine
No matter how busy you become with your bridesmaids, guests, groom-to-be, etc. you have to take time out in the morning and evening to prepare your skin. All it takes is maybe a total of ten minutes (five minutes in the morning and five at night) to keep your skin free of pimples.
A simple and healthy routine can save you quite a bit of aggravation. So stop making your skin worse by sleeping in your makeup! Start your new routine by washing with a cleanser that is designed for acne-prone skin. Then apply a toner to your face, especially in your T-zone area (forehead, chin and nose). Next you can apply medicated products that contain benzoyl peroxide on problem or potentially problematic spots. For the morning, it’s important to apply a moisturizer that contains sunscreen -- you don't need to look like a lobster or peel on your wedding day either.
Tools & Tricks of the Trade
When the routine fails to work -- and it often does when you have somewhere important to go -- do the next best thing: manage the blemishes that have cropped up.
Pore Extractor
A pore extractor might sound like the last thing you want to use, but it's not as scary as you might think. You can purchase this tool for under $10 at a local drug store. It's usually a metal rod, which has two different sized loops on the end. To use it, all you have to do is place the loop (small or large one) over a pimple then press down gently to release the contents of the whitehead or blackhead. You might have to press down and then slightly up for better results.
Now you might wonder why this is any different than using your fingers, which are free of charge. However, your fingers have dirt and oil on them, which can become transferred onto your face and block more pores. The pore extractor should be cleaned with alcohol before and after every use to avoid clogging pores. Plus, with the pore extractor, you don't risk cutting your skin with your nails or bruising yourself.
Makeup Miracles
It's the day of your wedding and you have a large, red or white bump ... what is a girl to do? First, take a couple of breaths and realize that this isn't the worst thing that could happen. Then grab your makeup bag and start your plan of attack. You can always give the illusion of perfect skin.
If you have a whitehead and a few hours before you walk down the aisle, it's wise to release it with a pore extractor. By the time you get to the reception, the whitehead might become larger. You can clear out the pore with the extractor and within an hour the impression from the metal pore extractor will have disappeared. Just make sure to apply toner to the area afterwards.
When you have redness, it's best to use corrective makeup that has a yellow hue. This shade will help even out your skin and reduce the redness. Then you can apply your perfect shade of foundation over top and then seal it with powder. For larger areas of acne, use a sponge to apply your foundation so you can get more coverage and a blended effect.
Natural & Gentle Last Minute Remedies
There are so many products that claim to reduce the size of your blemishes over night, but they don't always work. If you haven't found your last minute miracle product, give essential oils a try.
Not all essential oils can be applied directly to the skin. However, lavender, melaleuca and tea tree are gentle. These oils have powerful properties, which is why they can work so fast. Lavender can reduce redness while melaleuca and tea tree can dry up the blemish. It's best to test these on your skin first to make sure you don't have a reaction, because they are derived from plants. Depending on your skin, you could see results within 24 hours or even a few hours.
These tips and tricks will prevent you from screaming in frustration or making yourself sick over that silly red dot. Now if you see a pimple or two before your wedding, you can laugh at it and say goodbye to those imperfections or at least hide them well in time to walk down the aisle.
